Classes and studies
Classes are delivered in Croatian language. If necessary, they can be organised and performed in English as well. Courses are designed and performed within the period of one academic year, i.e. two semesters (winter and summer semester) each extending over 15 weeks. Courses can take one semester or two semesters, as defined by the curriculum.
Regular examination periods include winter, summer, and additional examination periods. A regular examination period lasts at least four weeks, featuring two exam dates with a minimum of 14 days between them.
Studies and study programmes
The Faculty of Maritime Studies in Split delivers undergraduate study programmes in Nautical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Maritime Management, Maritime Electrotechnical and Information Technologies and Yacht and Marina Technologies. These programmes are aimed at the education of future masters, deck officers, marine engineers, electronic/electrical officers and other officers and professionals in maritime economy, transport and tourism.
The provided education and training progammes comply with the requirements of STCW convention (International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers), IMO (International Maritime Organization) regulations and The Regulation on Requirements for the Award of Ranks and Certification of Seafarers aboard Croatian merchant ships.
Graduate study programmes are intended for students wishing to become masters of science and seek professions related to port and ship inspection, port and marina management or shipping industry; in addition, these programmes offer students the possibility to acquire knowledge necessary to resume their education at post-graduate studies, i.e. allow the formation of scholars to be engaged in scientific research work in interdisciplinary maritime sciences.
All programmes of study belong to the scientific area of Technical Sciences, the field of Traffic and Transport Technology, the discipline of Maritime Transport. Their fundamental features are:
- compatibility and comparability,
- international equivalence of degrees and titles,
- particularity of education of officers and professionals in maritime economy and tourism, which is reflected in outstanding permeation of the scientific and professional work and the possibility of life-long learning and professional training.
